Kyocera 4200 clicking noise, paper tray.

It sounds like the paper tray is trying to over travel. While messing with it, I noticed that if I pushed the tray to the right, it would work correctly. To me the paper tray is the variable. When I talk to the customer, I found out that this has been going on since he got it and got worse with time. The company he bought it from told him to buy a new tray. The customer told me that one time he heard the company rep on the phone saying that the machine was doing just like the others. This make me think it is a repeat issue foe that model. Before I tell him to buy a tray, I would like an opinion from someone who works on these.

It's usually a plastic post in the lift drive broken. It's a relatively major disassembly to fix. I read somewhere that you can substitute a spring lift cassette from a different model. Read here:

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Have changed many broken trays on these. Generally under warranty.

Thanks for responding. Will suggest he try the other tray. He said he does not want to throw more money at it. He can buy the tray if he wants to. I don't want to do a major repair on a brand I have never worked on before. Besides, the only other Kyocera I have worked on, is a current open ticket' and another dog. Working on this one as a third party for a company that has no tech support for it. Machine refuses to accept new yellow toner, first time they changed it. Not getting a good feeling about this brand

get a fs2100 tray, they are spring loaded, you have to snip a little square of plastic off right hand side is the only mod you have to do. We use these on all our 4100's that break the lift mechanism.

    Hi
Yes you can replace the cassette with the spring loaded type from the slower model in the same series of printers, you have to break off a tab on the left of the cassette to get it in, it's fairley obvious when you see it.
done this a few times, don't strip the printer!!
