Serious question here, Why not install to network using the printers host name? Its not an mfp, can only print

Using Host name relies on DNS working, Static does not. Can you use host name Yes but it is not the preferred method.
Using Static ipaddress takes DNS out of the picture.

As far as router failure both will result in no printing?????? NOPE router replaced with same ip range everyone will still print.

Setting a static ipaddress for printers is basic networking 101, However setting a reservation IS NOT within YOUR scope of work.
I am sticking to the main body as you describe it., and in a small office in most cases I AM the IT tech, even if they have a contract for IT support from a third party. My concern and focus is to get "my" customer up and running and eliminating any future problems. Touching a customer's router does NOT mean you own it, I have no idea where you got that wild ass assumption from? If you had actually read my original post I did not say router failure, I said power failure, not router failure! It is very obvious that you do not have an understanding of DHCP, static IP addresses and reservations. Glad you do not work for me! Goodbye, you are gone.

Stick to main body young jedi and get some network training you need it.
Every Kyocera for the last 20 years training setup has basic printer install and setup. Not router reservations.
