Cs-2550 scanner issue

Cannot find smtp. Or unable to scan. Pinged it and finds it ok. Brought up the browser with the ip and the utility is there but scanning with this one is not my cup of tea. Replaced the scan pcb with another and same deal. I know this involves some kind of scanner network settings but not sure what settings to look for in the browser. Any help appreciated. Thanks t

Are you using the IP address of the SMTP server, or typing the name? I have seen these have trouble resolving the name, even with the proper DNS settings in place. I always use the IP address now. You probably already are, just hoping this might be the issue.

Scan file utility

On the print driver cd there should be a scan file utility thats has to be loaded first. make sure you set firewall exceptions for scan file utility as well. add a scan folder to your c: drive and set up the file utility with the same folder.

The scan file utility is for scanning to a folder on the pc, he says he is having trouble with SMTP (scan to email). You do not have to have the scan file utility installed for scan to email.

OP: if you just want to scan to the computer, then you need to install the scan file utility on the pc and point it to the shared folder you want to scan to, then configure an address for that pc through the web browser on the copier. You can turn off SMTP. If you want to scan to email, you will have to get the SMTP settings and authentication figured out.

You make the settings under "System Settings" in the web interface.

if it say 'cannot find smtp', it's not that long of a checklist:

1. wrong smtp-server (please use ip, not dns-name)
2. smtp not supported (ms exchange doesn't support smtp 'out of the box', thats an option, and exchange might be picky on ip.adr. go figure. that's a dns-trap for you)
3. smtp server blocked by firewall/some security-antivirus-protection-shit.
4. wrong port no. (some it-admins like to change the port no. because they think it will make things safer. bs.)

can't really come up with anything else. general tip though: put scanner-nic in dhcp so that if finds info first, and make a default sender as all email requires that. if it finds smtp but goes into error when trying to send, thats when the list can get nasty.
