its possible that this is happening on its kin-folk. but i have a customer that uses his as a fax. this is his second 1650 (both have been brand new machines). he says that the incoming and outgoing faxes are extremely slow. he said it will show receiving...then pause and print...then show receiving ...then pause and print.

is there anyway to speed this thing up?

i worked telephony for 18 years, i'm sure its the local phone lines, but i wanted to see if there was some settings i could look into.

If you worked in telephony you'll know that when the sending facsimile encounters a poor quality phone line it steps down to a slower modem, then a slower modem, then a slower modem, until it gets a good training.

You should consider yourself lucky that the machine is able to communicate at all on inferior phone lines. Features like Error Correction Mode which allow data communication on poor lines also add lots of seconds to your transmisson time.

My advice: Get the phone line fixed. =^..^=

yeah, its just trying to prove to the customer that its the lines and not the machine. he can hook up a stand alone fax and it seems to work fine (or better), just hard to prove.

Have you tried Switching off ECM mode to see if that helps speed up the machine.

well, i went to look at the machine last thursday...the customer is receiving 40-50 pg documents..the memory is being overloaded and not much options to upgrade. smaller faxes came thru fine. gonna try to upgrade customer to newer machine with bigger harddrive and memory

40-50pages should not be any problem. standard fax memory holds around 400 depending on res. pretty sure you can add 8 mb to the faxsystem also. sure there's not a bunch of faxes stored in the memory?

You can use compact flash memory or one of those really cool mini-hard drives that interface with the CF port. I don't remember the exact specs on the drive, but I can look them up tomorrow. =^..^=
