Fixed a C8140 today.. It was the small wrap spring that hooks on the rear most finger clamper. It was broken allowing the clampers to jitter slightly messing with the sensor.

Re: KM 5050i Sorter Tray A Problem
Hello,
I have the same problem with a KM5050 with a DF-710.
I had multiple times c8140. i restart and can't select "tray A" anymore.
Only when i execute U906 i can use it for about 5-10minutes then again c8140...
Friday i go again to this client with the required sensors, tray motor and main pwb from another DF-710 (like seen in manual).
I don't believe in F/W update because it always worked before without update...
Anyone any idea or experience about this issue??
Thanks in advance.

Re: KM 5050i Sorter Tray A Problem
As an earlier poster said.....check the spring on the solenoid that operates the clamp fingers in the output tray A. These are the fingers that would hold one set in position while the next set is outputted.
The spring will break causing a failure in the linkage between solenoid and finger mechanism. If the fingers don't move into the down position, you get a failure code.
Firmware updates are a good idea even when not solving an obvious problem.
