    6030/8030 fusing issue

i have a 8030 that the fuser is not being turned. i cannot get it to turn in sim mode either. i can turn the green handle on the front of the fuser and it turns for about a half a second or so and stops, i manually turn it again, and the process starts all over again.

i heard it grind once while working on it. so i'm not sure if i have a motor issue or a gear issue. i hate to order a motor and find out its a gear or vice versa or not order all the right gears.

has anyone had this issue before and have any thoughts on it?

    thanks.

I havent seen this myself, but I have had it described to me exactly like this by a friend of mine. They are apparently having issues with the fuser drive motor & gears. You have to access from the rear. Pull the cage & a few screws later you have the whole fuser drive in your hand.

See attached bulletin for new part numbers.

    Good Luck!

I had one 6030 with codes related to drive so far 2500 area and one was fuser drive and the next was drive section. Trying simulations for each motor did not help much so we replaced the motor and for about two weeks the problem was ok but came back. We found out that the drive system was slow and you have to check jamming history and the millage for each component. The duplexer is part from system and are a lot not only one bushing on this unit so we clean and lube all of them second problem found was the drive clutch for the take up upper tray is under the the dev and was a lot of toner around. The dev was leaking and the toner got inside the clutch and became hard like a cement. Taking out the tray take up unit is very easy so start with this if you see any toner on it second remove the duplexer and clean all the bushings untill is moving free of any effort. Hope I gave you some tips.

are you getting fuser lock service code?
cleaning web could be jammed in rollers

does the fuser turn when you pull out the transport section?
kyocera changed from oil lite bushings to a bearings on the switchback unit.

Gotta love manufacturers, the whole gear box with motors have been on high demand because even the new ones fail sooner than they should. I get about 600-800k or so out of mine in a high volume account. They supposedly have redesigned but I haven't seen a difference other than some shims and subtle small changes. The gears still strip and the machines are completely down for a few days to weeks because of availability. Even my regional rep is saying his other dealers are desperate for them. Old part number is as follows- 302FB93130

My machines are still young, but I've heard the rumors of gear drives failing, and the duplexer bushings binding. The duplexer is also driven by the fuser motor so it can also slow the drive, but if the fuser just won't turn al all, I'd take a close look at the gears. =^..^=

I had one 8030 my machine problem upper cover fuser stack with fuser roller and I replace upper cover fuser, motor fixing and gear 88 fuser. most of the km8030 around 500k you can see rear side one line on the fuser roller because toner bildup between upper cover fuser and fuser roller

i'm not for sure of the count off the top of my head. but i have put a brand new fuser in it to test the fuser section. when running sim 30, the transfer belt and such are moving, but not the fuser gears. i pulled a gear box out of a 6030 i have in the shop and will swap tomorrow to see what is happening.

well, i went back today and replaced the gear box section (controls fuser, transfer etc), it works fine now.

i told the "old" gear box apart, it was the gear 88 (part identifed as #55 in the manual). according to the tech bulletin the gear and fixing motor have to be replaced as a set.

the gear had a flat spot on it...it would catch every now and then.

    thanks for the input guys!

Another thing to check, while that unit is in hand, is the coupler. If it is black it is an old style which can turn on its shaft and cause it to bind, if that occurs it is possible that the coupler can be pushed rearward (normal), as the fuser is pushed in, but won't return forward as drive begins (abby-normal). The new style is "creamy white" (per service bul 7655) and is strengthened in the oval area. I'm sorry I don't have the P/N available at the moment.
