KM-5050 slow faxes

U670 -> Action List will print out a list of how many faxes were sent and received at which speeds. Try this on a known good machine first to see what normal values should be (21.6k and 14.4k were common for me). On a Falcon 2, this is under U617.

U670 -> Protocol List will print out a trace of the last fax. There's a bunch of weird acronyms, but google or a LDC-650 manual can give a good introduction. It can show you how long it takes to handshake, how often it renegotiates speeds, how long each page takes to send, etc.

Turning ECM off seems to fix many fax issues for us.

The reason we opt for changing the error threshold while leaving ECM turned on is it eliminates the user's complaints when they get a really bad telephone line and it either compresses the data so they can't read a line(s) of the fax or it stretches it out so it looks like a font on steroids.

With ECM turned off every fax will just repeat the last good line of data received when it encounters errors which causes the compression or expansion of a line of the fax message. Changing the threshold eliminates this and is transparent to the user.
