km 4030/4035 developing unit (refurbishing it)

    crazy question.:

Is there any way to clean the magnetic roller in the developer unit without it losing its charge?

Atleast thats what it seemed like to me.

I popped open a developer unit
    cleared out the toner
cleaned off the magnetic roller with some alcohol
and copy quality got very bad
it was about the quality of a paper that had been copied that got wet and had a very light impression
this was a definite step down from what I was getting before...
next I tried to isolate the problem by switching this magnetic roller with the magnetic roller in another developing unit... I got the same result... the magnetic roller definitely died.

this is ok because they were junk anyway but i was checking out some statements about refurbishing developers in this forum.

Is there any way to clean the developer magnetic roller without it losing magnetic charge

I confirmed that it was a bit weaker by checking how attracted the magnetic cleaning blade was to the roller

I wouldn't say that alcohol causes a mag roller to lose it's magnetic properties, but I've always used dry rags and a vacuum.
But I'm trying, Ringo. I'm trying real hard... to be the Shepherd.

On Canons and some Ricohs it's necessary to clean the mag rollers occasionally. Roller Rejuvenator or trichorethylene (if you can still get it) works quite nicely. Just be sure to vacuum the unit as clean as possible beforehand, and rinse the roller with alcohol afterwords and wipe dry. On a Canon NP 6030 you can count on ~75 crappy low-fill copies until the mag roller has completely cleared the alcohol. Since the KM-4035 is monocomponent also, it should work about the same.

The magnetism in the mag roller is not at any risk during cleaning. =^..^=

    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.

    Cleaning the mag

If there is rotational bands on the mag, I take a scotch brite pad with green side down and clean it. It doesn't effect the mag and it works great.

alcohol won't kill a magnet, you can clean the mag roller with a dry rag most ot the time w/good results. If in doubt, get a new developing unit, they are cheap.

    Martin Yale Rubber Rejuvenator

    Martin Yale brand Roller Rejuvenator:
Rubber Roller Cleaner and Rejuvenator - 13 oz, Equipment

Works great on metal like fuser rollers & developing cylinders, rubber tires (what it's designed for), and even plastic covers. Note: when cleaning tires don't expect the towel to start coming away clean. I literally removes a glazed layer of rubber, and will continue to remove rubber as long as you rub. =^..^=

Question: Did you take off the doctor blade because i did that and i could not get it back to the correct spec and i had very poor copy quality. As these are non serviceable items kyocera dont give you the doc blade gap diameter.

I've rebuilt Sharp dev units with no problem setting the doc blade back to its original setting with a feeler gauge but i've gave up with the kyocera.

Sharp mag rollers had magnets in them (dont know about kyocera) and if there broken and also put in back to front it gives you problems also.

    kyocera doctor blade diameter

Can that really cause an issue... I thought you just pulled them off cleaned the them up and stuck them back on... I did not know you had to worry about the distance from the blade to the mag roller.... man why the heck doesn't kyocera go over any relevant stuff in their training classes....
