    task alfa 250/300 ci engine board question

    Does anyone know which wire harness plugs into yc25 on the task alfa 250/300ci... I have asked the help desk and they told me they dont have the parts list so goto the parts warehouse... I called the parts warehouse and was told they are not familiar with that model and will research it... I called up the local kyocera area tech and he couldn't help... the parts manual and the service manual don't give you any clear ideas... help...

    YC25 is connected to the eject motor, paper full sensor, fuser motor, fuser clutch and fuser fan motor. It's very hard to tell which harness that you need to order that goes to that connector. Even looking at the machine it's hard to tell trying to match it up to the parts manual. Why do you need that part?

    I have a task alfa that keeps telling me that the exit tray is full... I switched out the sensor, the error went from being their fully to intermittently... switched out the exit unit... error went from being there intermittently to 15 minutes and then it was back... switched out the harness... and the error just went away... called customer today and error might be back... so that might mean engine board is next... anyway... I need the harness becuase I swapped these parts out of a kyocera machine at the shop... and I want to get it running again... the only part I am having difficulty with identifying is the harness...

    thanks for all your help....

    Here's a thought just replace the wiring that you think is faulty from the connector to the board. Shouldn't be that hard with a little bit of motivation. I would run jumper wires and test it. If that works then make it a little more permanent. I have seen guys fix issues like this with old speaker wire. I know its crude, but if it gets your customer up them you both win!

    If you can pinout the harness and identify the specific wire, it's really easy to replace individual wires. You don't even have to remove the old one, just clip the ends.

    One of the more memorable ones were a main body harness on a Sharp Cougar. I had an open lead to the transport sensor (5vdc lost). I couldn't find the break, but could very easily add one additional 16 gauge lead and splice in the ends. It sure beats stripping out a main body harness.

    Now if you cannot identify the bad connection or it's intermittent, that's another story...
    If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

    Re : Search for break in a wire.

    Don't tell me the old black cougar has never been taught how to binary search a broken wire ?
    It's a maximum of six search points with a sharp needle probe or probe light.

    Might have to teach some old cats and dogs some new techniques ?

    Don't worry, I'm sure there is a few dozen you could teach me too....

    I've heard rumors, but no details. Can you really measure the resistance accurately enough on a 2m long length of 16gg wire to calculate the distance to the break? On high power lines it makes sense, because they're travelling miles, not just 2m.

    This cat is ready to learn a new trick. Let's hear it. =^..^=

    Binary search for a broken wire using multimeter or light-probe on Ohms or continuity test.
    Use a small sharp prob to peirce the plastic on the wire. This won't work for copper sheild or coax cables of cause.
    I use pins or needles to go right through the offcenter of the wire depends on the access to the job.

    [TESTING BROKEN WIRE]
    x = break in wire
    (-) neg sharp prob piercing plastic
    (+) pos sharp prob peircing plastic

    The technique requires dividing (DO NOT CUT) the wire in half with each test.
    Each time you disreguard the half of the wire tested(binary) if you have full continuity, ie a light or a beep.

    Random Wire Loom or Length of Wire
    DO NOT CUT WIRE

    Test (1)
    :........................Side A...........(+) side B.....................(-)
    ====x==========================================
    .................................................. ................................

    DO NOT CUT WIRE

    Test (2)
    :......side A....... (-)...side B.....(+)
    ====x====================
    ................................................

    DO NOT CUT WIRE

    Test (3)
    :... A.....(+)..B......(-)
    ====x============
    .............................

    DO NOT CUT WIRE

    Test (4)
    :.A (-) B (+) Bingo!! Again! No continuity after the 4th test.
    ====x=====
    ..................

    Run your thumb nail as hard as you can between the last points A and B down the plastic to see if your thumb nail divots into the broken strand and plastic. I sometimes pull hard on the plastic as it stretchs at the point of the break, which can help find the break easier. Simply cut solder and shut it.

    The above info is one for your apprentices.......

    I have taught 30years of experienced Telecom(Phone) technicians how to twist
    and tie and solder two wires together properly. They were peeved when I showed them. They came back later and said you were right that is a good way of doing it. I nearly had a blew(fight) with one of the apprentices over proper way to twist two wires together. He later humbly smiled and said I didn't realize I was doing it incorrect. Your way is the better method.

    Looks useful. It still seems easier to me to replace the full length of a single wire from connector to connector, than pulling out the harness and cutting the ties and metering a single wire.

    In addition, Canon and some other manufactures often use miles and miles of purple or gray wire, with no distinctive color coding. I don't mind testing out three or four out of 20 possible wires, but all of them? It seems impractical in that situation.

    I understand the method, and will put it to use. Thanks NeoMatrix. I hope I'm never too old to pick up a new skill. =^..^=

    That's ok... Humility noted.

    As the saying goes her in OZ: "When you stop learning you start dying...."
    And of course "Your never to old to learn" is the other one.

    If your pass the info on to your apprentices then your have returned the favour in full.
    You never know your apprentice might in return teach my grandchildren one day...

    I have one grand daughter at the moment, she is a handful of joy at times.... Oooh yeah!
