    Question Head Stumper Challenge

I've got a 1" wide graduated shadow running the long edge of my copies that does not show on scans or prints of scans. It looks very physical, but how can it be???? If it was physical it would show on the scans also.

    It's a KM 1610FP. ;-]

    HELP!

    Chris

Have you run a counter page or some other internal print, to determine if its optical or a print engine problem? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

line is not on any prints. machine reports or network prints. Only copies adf or glass, but not scans.

Wow! I'm stumped! I can think of possibilities for ADF-not glass, or Glass-not ADF, but not affecting scans? I can't begin to explain that. Maybe an image processing issue... but scans should still be affected. =^..^=

Is it twain scan or push (where u can change settings @ the machine b4 sending), not familiar w/this model, but if you try to darken b4 scanning that'll typically make any irregularities show up on a scan too. Just a thought!

(RICOH TECH... But...) have you compared auto image density and manual image density modes?

Some Ricoh machines scan a 1" (ish) band and apply the density to the whole main scan line when in auto ID mode, I have seen what sounds like similar problem caused by this. Not sure if a KM would have the same issue?

May give you a clue as to the cause.

Try copying an A3 (Large) sheet, reducing and rotating onto an A4 (small) sheet fed long edge first. Does the problem rotate and reduce? This would confirm the optics / scanner as the problem.

we'll never know now. I cleaned everything under the glass (again) to beyond pristine standards put 'er back together and wala... It's gone.

Love the suggestions on rotate and reduce!!! Brilliant step!

Thanks everyone, maybe this thread will save someone else some day.
