If I recall correctly, gmail's SMTP service requires an encrypted connection (TLS/SSL), which none of the Kyocera engines support currently.

They do suppport SSL under the Advanced>Security tab. Not sure about TSL and I don't think the older base models 221/820 support SSL.
Here's a doc how to get it to work.
    Attached Files Attached Files
    Hope that helps !

I was also told they support SSL on the newer model 500ci, 420i
Your document is just relay from IIS. The machine is sending to a computer running IIS and than its sent to gmail.
I was trying to send directly to smpt.gmail.com

I have no experience with Kyocera machines, but keep in mind that GMail can use two different ports for SMTP, 465 and 587. If one doesn't work, try the other.

everything tests ok through 587 on the web interface with ssl on, but when it comes down to sending it keeps erroring out. strange... i also tried the IIS relay and got a 2101 error

You have to keep in mind, the "test" only finds the server. It doesn't check authentication, port or any of those settings. I like to try to send a meter count from the web page to see what it gets.
    Hope that helps !

Todd, I have not and my guess is that it won't work. I honestly couldn't tell you why, but the doc I posted was from Kyocera so I assume it HAS to be set up as a relayed connection, otherwise they would have set it up to connect directly. It seems that most web based emails will give you trouble.
    Hope that helps !

I agree gmail will not work unless you send it through an email relay... ssl/tls just won't work on kyoceras... to verify what is happening run it through wireshark... then show the results to your client. They can argue with you but they cann't argue with the data... then again its a client...
