    KM 4050 Add Toner

We have a KM-4050i that keeps trying to add toner. The toner morter seems to working (or at least we can hear it turning). We have tried replacing the toner cartridge and it still wont tone up. I'm not too familiar with the 4050...any ideas on what i can check?

    Thanks for the help!

Is it a TK-717 cartridge? The Type A cartridge used in the Falcon II series looks identical, but the coupler is different. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Hi Blackcat: It is a TK-717 cartridge. Should I be using something else?

Nope. TK-717 is the right one. I've heard rumors of problems with the timing belt drive that drives toner add. But it's no fun to access.

You might try removing the toner cartridge, key the front door, then run U130 to watch the coupler drive.

I was reading another thread and found out that the Kyocera 4050i uses a different toner coupler. I guess the 4050i was used for Ikon, and takes another type of toner? Have you heard of this? Is there any way to change it over to a standard 4050?

    Thank you!

Correct. There is a different drive coupler for the Ikon version. I've read the number someplace ...

We're a Copystar dealer, and I believe that the Kyocera and Copystar use the same coupler (302GR31010). Can anyone confirm that?
That's all you need for the conversion. But again, it's not much fun to access. =^..^=

I have "fixed" these by gently pulling the toner gear frame slightly forward. The replacement for this drops the gears by .3mm and it is not fun to get to.
