Kyocera 3530 shuts off and on by itself

Have a weoird problem with this machine. As the customer is using it the machine will shut down and then reset by itself. They do not have to turn the machine on when it does this. There are no error codes and no c-codes stored in maint mode. Of course if they are in the middle of copying whe it turns back on there are paper jams all over the machine. But no jam codes are registered since the paper is there when the machine turns itself back on. We have switched the doc feeder thinking that the problem crops up most of the time when they are using it.

Now for the 64,000 question. Anyone else seen this?

Too bad but I already have the manuals from the manufacturer. Now have you actually seen this sort of problem and can you suggest a possible solution. Besides trying to sell something that is.

Yes it does. I have also posted in another forum. And someone there mentioned he has seen this on several machines with the fax option installed. He suggested replacing the white flat cable from the fax board to the main board. I have another machine with the fax option installed at the shop. We're going to swap the cable at least and go from there.

That's what I was going to suggest. A bad connection at that ribbon cable can create some truly strange issues, like:
    Won't enter service mode
    Won't load firmware
    Won't turn off
    Fax addressbook absent
Cover Open indication, when cover is closed
Please Wait. Cannot Be Combined indication when attempting to fax

    Weird, huh? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

There is a firmware update for this issue. You need it and the instructions for installing it as you have some steps to follow.

But I'm trying, Ringo. I'm trying real hard... to be the Shepherd.

Quick follow-up to let all those who posted suggestions. The problem was a power supply going bad. Went back with the flat cable and no change. Firmware same thing. Then yesterday afternoon I was testing the machine after installing a fax board, just to eliminate that. And the machine died in the middle of a 30 page copy run. Very dim control panel and a barely legible error code of C-7810. Which is a humidity sensor failure according to the service manual. Called tech support after replacing the humidity sensor and they suggested a "new" power supply. Had another machine with a good one in it and swapped it. The copier has been doing fine so far. Keeping my fingers crossed and will let you guys know if anything else crops up with this machine.
