Company owner forcing us to use non-OEM toner - what comes next?

Against my strong suggestions, we are now being forced to give non-OEM toner to our unsuspecting clients - for all our Kyocera machines. Of course the toner provider SWEARS we will have no issues; however, I'd like to be ready for the problems we will soon be facing.

What issues do I need to expect from this change (i.e. what is most likely to break or cause problems)?

    Thanks for any heads-up!

yeah i agree on the fuser rollers...you can also count on the developer wearing out faster as well since the toner particles will probably be larger than the OEM toner

I think I would be inclined to go to at least a handful of machines (at least one of each model that you service), making sure they are making the best possible copies and prints, and save samples as benchmarks. (Obviously, don't store them where the customers could get a hold of them).

That way, if (or should I say when) the quality goes to $hit, you can go back to your management and show them.

I would get a written guarantee from the junk toner supplier.
I bet he won't supply it.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

The owner is obviously trying to save money. You need to note your current cost per copy for service, parts costs, parts usage, call backs, recalls and then 6 months from now check all the parameters again and you will be able to show the owner exactly how much money he actually lost with the added parts costs, labor costs, etc. Dumb, dumb dumb idea! Been there tried that, it doesn't work!

I worked for a company for 2 year that used generic everything and didn't realize until I worked for a dealer with OEM supplies that the machines aren't supposed to dust toner everywhere

Most of the printers I have dealt with using generic toner end up dumping more in the waste toner unit/bottle and then in the m/c once the waste unit is full (on certain models with drum and waste together), also you may start getting backgrounding and as above drum/fuser wear will increse. If the toner is the cause of fault then if the m/c has any warranty that will be void and so the cost will come to you/customer. Its a false ecconamy.
As above dumb dumb dumb thing to consider.
