Question Job accounting reverting back to default

    Hi everyone,

I'm an IT admin for a small office (30+ people). We have two Kyocera CS 3050ci copiers. They are connected to one of our servers and then shared for users to connect through the server, ex: //servername/printer1.

The Job Accounting is set up for a 5 digit Account ID that users input to print from these devices. The problem we run into is that this setting periodically goes back to a default state of not asking for the account ID. Users then are unable to print.

Is this a driver issue? Network issue? We are running on Windows Server 2003. I am able to provide whatever information that you guys might need.

Thank you for taking the time to read and look forward to your responses.

    Sam

Do you have a setting to turn off SNMP?

Alternatively, look in the Device Settings tab of the print driver. There will be a menu of AutoConfigure settings. Turn Off Silent Auto Configure, and select the appropriate options from the checklist. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

SNMP is set to SNMP v1/v2c with read and write community names as "public."

I'm trying to look for this Silent AutoConfigure setting. I see Administrator, User, PDL and Compatibility buttons under Device Settings.

    Hi Blackcat.
What issues/problems are you experiencing with Autoconfig on?
Is this for all versions of the print driver?
    Thanks

All I see on the Device Settings page are the buttons I mentioned above and AutoConfigure but that is also a button (not something I can turn on or off.) Poked around but didn't see what you were talking about blackcat.

Re: Job accounting reverting back to default

With certain versions of the driver, I've seen configuration defaults lost (finishers, document feeders, paper decks, and memory upgrades disappearing from the configuration of the driver). The current theory is that Silent Auto Configure attempted to configure while the MFP was unreachable. The first time I came across it, I installed an older version of the driver that did not contain the Silent Auto Configure feature (which worked). On the second occasion I browsed around the driver until I found a way to disable the Silent Auto Configure feature. Again, I was successful (at least I did not hear of a re-occurrence). If I remember correctly, when you click Auto Configure on the newer versions of the driver you get three menu options, but I do not remember what they are.

The bit about SNMP I picked up from posts here, but have not tried. =^..^=

SNMP is in properties-ports-configure port. uncheck it

the theory is the driver periodically talks to the machine through SMNP protocol and if the machine is sleeping or off, or a miscommunication happens the driver gets messed up and sometimes can't recover.

but there are more qualified techs to give you a better explanation, and of course, it may not even be the issue at hand.

Thanks for all the responses. I will look into the printer auto config issue.

    My queries are:

    >>are u the only one with admin level access to the print server?

    >>are the correct print drivers installed?

    >> how about enabling the password feature on the device settings tab.
