    KM4050

    Hi Everyone...

Firstly I will apologise if this is incredibly stupid.

I (I.T Guy for Copier company) went to install a KM4050 in a customers today. All up and running, has a booklet finisher. Its in a church with no network so I have cross overed a dedicated laptop to it. Prints and scans SMB ok.

However my test scans, one A4 takes a long time to appear in the folder. And when I sent a booklet job 5 pages long it flashes up with "out of memory".

The machine was firmwared last night before we installed it this morning... I have a feeling we need to tell the machine it has a hard drive in it but for the life of me I can't remember or find it in the service manual/firmware notes.

I have done a U024.... no success and I've intialised, made no difference. I also have done a scandisk. Nothing.

Do I have to tell it somewhere that it has a HDD?

I remember doing something similar with a 2560 a few years ago but can't find my notes. I know it was something simple I had to enable and viola it scanned multiple pages instantly and no more "out of memory" messages.

    Thanks for any help.

    Kal.

The machine has a hard drive as standard and you don't need to enable it.

Has you tried a reset in through the RUI, login as admin (password: admin00) and if its like the taskalfas its in advanced > tcpip > reset > reset machine to defaults.

With this machine you could upgrade the DRAM an additional 512MB from the standard 512MB. All our machines got the upgrade. You might try printing off the Status Page to see how much memory shows accessible.

The HDD is standard, and does not need to be enabled like a Konica Minolta.

You might try the print card reset like skynet suggests.

If you decide to do a U021 All Clear, be sure to reset the destination (manufacturer badge), and all your network, SMTP, and Addressbook information. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

    Re: KM4050

Thanks guys, I'll give the suggestions a go.

Customer actually brought the same booklet file to our showroom and we tested it, worked fine. They buy the thing, we firmware it. Put it in and now its not working! Just seems a coincidence that since doing the firmware we are now getting this can't complete job out of memory message.

I've done the status page and it's displaying that it has the 512 Ram.

I think I've learnt, If it ain't broke, don't try fix it!!!

    Re: KM4050

    Hey Guys,

So I did U021 clear. Put all the settings back in. Still same problem. I then added another 512 Ram stick. Came back with the same out of memory error.

Removed the stick. In the print driver if you set the PDL to PCL 5 it disables some of the finisher functions, I have always therefore left it on PCL XL, and not had a problem. Guess what, that was the problem. So if you have a customer using PDF's that have quite a few pages in them and they are making booklets and you get a out of memory message what you have to do is go to the properties of the print driver, device settings tab > PDL > change it to "KPDL" and apply the changes.

This keeps all the finisher functions and stops the out of memory issue. Hopefully you won't be as red faced as me!

As for the scanning, that has also sped up. But this is obviously not because of the print driver. I assume one of the suggestions you guys gave sorted that one out. Thanks everyone for their input.
