So anyone know if platen cover E for new machines has a double hinge ? Trying find out if it would work for copying books on the glass, so if its double hinged to allow thicker items on glass so we could use it to bid a library contract.

No, it's not double hinged, which is a point in it's favor.
All of the old Canon platen covers were double hinged. They also got broken on the center hinge, and the white sheet got ripped off, because of endusers leaning heavily on it. I repaired a bunch of these platen covers years ago by removing the white sheet, covering the bottom with 3/16" luan (thin plywood), then re-attaching the white sheet with carpet tape. And it was no longer hinged in the center and worked a whole lot better.
The posts into the top of the MFP can slide up to accommodate thicker (read: book) originals.
In my personal opinion, the ideal way to fashion a platen for book originals, would be to use the standard posts and hinges. Attach them to a shallow plywood box ~12" x 18" x 2" with the bottom open. Fill the box with 2" thick white memory-foam. It will contour to the back of the book, and completely block the rest of the copyboard glass, so you won't get the thick black outline around the book, which causes fuser jams.

4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
