205c / 2550ci Wondering if anyone else seeing this problem

Two weeks ago I went out and looked at a 205c that was creating intermittent random black(only) bands on the rear edge of letter paper in the portrait direction. Sorry I don't have a sample as they have been sent back for warranty. On the 205c I swapped the IT belt and black dev just for testing purposes. Putting the original units back in when problem remained. The black drum unit immediately fixed the problem as I figured it would. I just called the customer and they have not seen the bands since.

I attached 2 samples from a 2550ci that I just looked at that creating the same pattern but in all 4 colors. This was a print job and would not do it for me while looked at machine. But I recognized the pattern immediately. The 2550ci has 13k BW and 9k color copies on the machine, 1st service call. The pattern can be any combination of the 4 colors. Yellow alone OR cyan and magenta OR black, cyan, mag OR yellow and mag....totally random.

Talking with Tech Support about the 2550ci they didn't have a lot of ideas about it, but what stumped both of us is all 4 colors doing it. 4 drums going bad??? Doubtful, but if it's going to happen it will happen to the machine that is out of town. So I didn't have spares to test with. Tech support was more inclined to think IT belt issue...

All I did to the machine was apply contact grease to grounding points on drums and IT belt. Reseat memory and connectors. Asked the customer to run as normal.
Firmware was/is up to date on both machines also.

I'm curious if anyone else seeing this pattern???

    Thanks

I haven't seen your problem, but did you try a transfer belt?

Yeah, I think it's primary transfer ... but transfer shift. The mechanism that lowers the color primary transfer rollers is probably not keeping even pressure. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Tried a belt on the 205c with no change. The 2550ci was out of town and I didn't have one with me plus it's not doing it "all the time" yet. Leaving the customer to run machine and see what happens.

Hi - I've heard of some machines doing this during the cold/wet days before Christmas and referred them to service bulletin 2MV-0022 (D165), that was issued on the UK technical website in December

The main charge failure might often occur depending on the vibration of the main charger roller by engaging the roots of the main charger cleaning roller gear and the main charger roller idle gear. Especially, the main charge performance was decreased under low temperature and low humidity environment due to the electrification characteristic, which might cause banding image (or streaks).

Seems to have resolved that particular problem for us - hope it proves useful.

Another tech was getting caught up on training and saw the problem mentioned in the 2551ci online training.

Image Improvements, better Gear Mesh inside PCU assy

Is the exact same problem I was seeing. Also had it occur on a 205/255c. Guess I need to get caught up too.
