had a copystar 5050 last week giving black copies and internal prints. thought it was the engine board due to improper volts from connector "yc7"-pin#4 when running maint. mode 100. (main charge on). we put an engine board in and downloaded current firmware. copier worked for a day and started the black copies/prints again. gutted copier and found nothing apparently wrong-- no signs of arcing, no burnt wires, nothing..after working with it for a good bit, i noticed that during the times when i was getting good copy/prints, i could run maint. mode 100 and all sounded good.. BUT- when i was getting black copies, and running maint. mode 100, i would here a high pitched squeel. replaced the drum ass'y(with main charge unit) and problem solved. turns out the main charge unit was arcing internally..good luck

Exclamation same problem

I have the same trouble on KM-4050. I went last week and found toner covering the front end of the grid, so I cleaned it. Fixed it for a week or so now they have called back. I will try to order a main charge unit if i can and see what that does. More suggestions are welcome.

Replace the main charge unit, clean the two filters by the bypass, blow out your seperation grid, and you will be good to go for another 100k as long as you have no tiny little pit holes in the drum unit, then you have to throw a new drum in it.

This is a voltage issue with the main charger. A build up of toner will cause a short. About a 50/50 chance a new charger will fix it. Replace the drum if you still have unacceptable output.

I kind of thought that was what I just said, except the toner build up comes from not cleaning out your two dust filters by the bypass, the problem is that heat builds up in the machine and causes the toner to stick to the main charge grid. Hence it starts shorting out.

Furthermore I am not sure about this website, wether it is plagued with technicians that are not Kyocera or Copystar trained technicians. I have noticed some customers even blogging on this site. I hate helping a dealership that is not an authorized dealer and furthermore I hate getting stuck working on a machine that some fly by night copier technician just got done working on.
