Intermittent folding corners on duplexing CS 552ci

Every few pages or so it will bend back the corner of a page while duplexing. He stopped paper before hitting the fuser for the second pass multiple times and found no bent corners. So he knew that it was happening in the fuser on the second pass, so my tech replaced the fuser. Didn't solve the problem. He then noticed that it happens regardless of where the output is. So he knew it couldn't be the job separator. Replaced the exit assy just to rule it out. Nada. I'm thinking of telling him to replace the whole side door, since it appears that some part in the duplexing process is causing it to hit the fuser late, or in a way that a corner is being folded over. Thoughts?

Take a look in the exit section, for toner buildup on rotary eject guide near the idler rollers. Hot sticky toner warmed over the fuser inhibits paper passage. Scrape away toner buildup on rotary eject guide fins. Note: Toner is exactly the same color as the guide. All fins should be ~ the same level.

Also make sure that the fuser pressure has been applied. New fusers come with pressure off, and it's easy to forget.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Fuser pressure had been screwed down, and the exit assembly has already been replaced. Thanks for the response.

When a corner is bent is the print skewed?

Yes, the print on the back side especially if memory serves.

If the print is skewed on the backside copy, the paper is being skewed before reaching the transfer roller on the second pass, not at the fuser on the second pass.

Ok. I took this over from my guy. I finally saw the fold with toner on it. Every piece he showed me didn't have toner on the edge. Toner was on the outside of the fold, not the inside. That told me that it was folding before the fuser, not at the fuser, since the image was put on the folded part. I took the door off, took the duplex assembly apart, cleaned everything, and put it back together. No more folding pages.

Maybe something as simple as dirty duplex rollers or seizing bushings? Congratulations.

I always keep an eye on the pre-registration mylars. Enduser that do labels can mangle those mylars beyond use. =^..^=
