was trouble shooting by switching boards.. put all original parts back in, now I get a blue screen. The functions still work, I just cant see and options on the screen.. oh yeah, and I checked the contrast knob.

If the screen was ok before you touched it i.e. you had some form of display on it, then check for any bent pins, missing connectors you might have missed, connectors not fully pushed in, flat wire connectors not pushed in (i do that quite often - not pushed in properly) and any trapped wires.

I was doing that while waiting for a reply and it worked.. fun times!!
