    Kyocera TASKalfa 2552ci drum replacement

    Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone one else has had the same issue, after fitting a new drum (K) with the device still powered on we get terrible print quality / black background & there seems no way to resolve it except fitting a new drum but with the power OFF ?

Is this a known issue ?

Yes I have had this issue, follow what the service manual states and you wont have any issues

You need to replace the drum with the power off as per the manual.

After replacing the drum unit, close the cover and turn on the power.
Drum refresh will be executed automatically.
Please perform the below settings after "Ready" is displayed.
    1. Drum unit initial setting (Execute maintenance mode U119): Execute (High-end models only)
    2. Developer bias adjustment (Execute maintenance mode U140): AC Calib/Calibration (High end model
    only)
    3. ID correction operation setting (Execute maintenance mode U464): Calib
    4. Primary transfer unit initial setting (Execute the maintenance mode U469): Auto
    5. Adjusting the uneven density (maintenance mode U412): Normal Mode (High-end models only)
    6. ID correction operation setting (Execute maintenance mode U464): Calib (High-end models only)
    7. Adjusting the halftone automatically (Maintenance mode U410)

Part time retired. OK more retired than part time.

If all else fails read the Service Manual!

If that fails, meet me at the pub and we will discuss it, maybe, probably not we are at the pub!

    Welcome to the club!
Yes, well known because Iris series do not like wrong maintenance.
Extract from service manual/ chapter maintenance:
    (1) Precautions
Before disassembling the main unit, press the main power switch to turn the power off. Make sure that the
power lamp on the operation panel is off and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Then, start the
    disassembly.

This can happen on all new systems, not TA255xci only.
seen on bw systems like 4012i also.

Exchange from drum unit needed, because system has overwritten drum eeprom with values from previous drum or other wrong data.
Depended to the counters/ age of surface, run time, etc. system always calculate needed voltages, if we mount new drum without reset to new data, we get wrong calculations and finally image problems.
No way out, no adjustments for reset possible.

i have always wondered why some techs leave the power turned on when replacing parts. especially when you know said part has power run to it. you are creating a surge of power removing it with the power still on. in my book, you are just asking for trouble doing that.

When we deal with Sharp's, they never have that issue. Yes, there is power run to units, but once you open a maintenance door, power is cut off. The DV units now have connectors that need plugged in after inserting the whole unit, and once you open the door, you can reinsert that connector without issue. Kyocera's are the only manufacturer that I've heard of that has issues like this.

Yes lesson learnt. However many other manufacturers you can replace drums with the device on as opening the front cover cuts power etc.
