    FS-4020DN, charger roller lines.

The charge roller in the picture of this FS-4020DN was installed at 630K, now at 669K it already developed again heavy lines which are making streaks on the prints.

A complete maintenance kit MK-360 was installed at 457K. The drum only has been replaced later on again at 580K because of a little nick but the new one still looks OK for now. As said, also the charge roller had to be replaced early because of lines with 630K and develops now with 669K again those lines.

Question: What can cause this reoccurring premature failure at only 39K of the charge roller and how to correct it?

    Thanks

    Hans

A clean damp cloth and a bit of elbow grease, should clean the charge roller back to normal operation.

    Ref. No. 2F8-0034(9043)

< Measures against black spots and black streaks: New distinguishing method (Change of the CASE MC) After
the stock of old parts is used up>
    FS-2000D, FS-3900DN, FS-4000DN, FS-6950DN, FS-2020D, FS-3920DN, FS-4020DN, FS-6970DN
    Topic
The print image failures (black spots and black streaks) occurred in the field since the adhesive for the MC roller
peeled off and the rubber of the MC roller was removed. As the measures, the adhesive was changed to non
chlorine type in order to improve the durability. (Please refer to the Service Bulletin No.8929_COM-0153_SB.)
    * Due to the change of adhesive material for the MC unit, a projection was added to the CASE MC so that the
product with countermeasures can be distinguished. Black marking is applied to the CASE MC until the product
with this projection will be introduced.
The part code is not changed.

Although it doesnt look like the rubber is removed like they say

Thanks guys. Besides the elbow grease (must have somewhere still a pot of it) the clean cloth should be dampened with water only, isn't it?

    Correct.

Kyocera has taken several tries at getting those charge roller to last on a lot of different models. Voyager, VoyagerE, Saturn, Alphard I, Alphard II all do the same thing. The only trend I noticed is that at higher volumes, you can get more prints before it happens. =^..^=

On the panasonic and ricoh machines i found washing the roller under running water with a clean cloth works well. Worked fine on the canon rollers as well.

    Re: FS-4020DN, charger roller lines.

cleaning the charge roller with water alone does not do a proper job. paper dust and crust that accumulates on the rollers need a bit of detergent to loosen the dirt to clean the roller properly. simple green all purpose cleaner diluted or even diswashing liquid diluted does a good job. to make fast work of it, i use a used word green scoring pad that has lost its grits with the dishwasing liquid and it does a good job. just don't press hard, let the detergergent do the work. done hundreds of these no problem. just make sure the roller is dry when done and if you are cleaning wth the roller not removed then make sure liquid does not get to the cleaning brush on the assy.

I've always cleaned them with alcohol or Blow Off rubber rejuvenator and have never had a problem.
    Hope that helps !

we use simple green and immediately wipe with the dry part of the cloth afterwards. cuts through the buildup quickly and we haven't had an issue yet.

I used Windex together with a coarse cotton cloth. Worked perfectly.

    Thanks for your input guys.
