Kyocera FS-C5350DN - No magenta on prints

    Hi everyone

I seem to be coming across a problem with the C5350, where it is not putting any magenta onto printouts. Only appears to happen with magenta. There doesn't seem to be enough or any toner getting down into the dev unit. We have checked the toner, it is opening correctly, the toner drive is working. The worm drive that feeds the toner in the transfer belt is functioning and the dev unit agitator spring is also functioning correctly. Even stranger is on every instance when the machine has been lifted (either to a more accessible area or back to the workshop) it then starts to print out perfectly again. But this wont last.

The latest firmware is installed. Is there some other process i could be missing?

    Thanks for any help.

Have you done any of the Gemini updates? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Possibly not Blackcat, i dont know what updates you are referring to! I double checked through all the service bulletins, don't see anything.

There was a bulletin ( B157-2KV-0002 May 2011) on the bias springs that may help you . ( I thought of this when you said that if the printer is moved, it will work for a while )
I also heard somewhere ( maybe here on CTN ) about the bias tabs on the transfer unit not making good contact, even after re-seating.
Does your customer move this printer around ?

Thanks for the reply HenryT2. Cant find that bulletin in serviceworld or anything regarding bias springs! Are you sure we are talking about the same model? FS-C5350dn

I'll check anyway. Customer doesn't move the machine about (that i know of). Strange that a few machines have had exactly the same fault. Give them a boot and they will work for a while.

The relatives that we have in the field are the FS-C2526MFP, but it's the same print engine. When this first started happening, I'd take out all the units, poke around a little, then put it all together, then the copy quality would return. My guess is that re-seating the imaging units restored the bias connections, but that's only a guess. =^..^=

Re: Kyocera FS-C5350DN - No magenta on prints

Just an update. One machine in particular was "fixed" and returned to the field, its done about 4000 prints and has dropped the magenta again.

They are printing quite a low coverage and the T7 Toner management was enabled through prescribe to try to stop overtoning.

Just wondering if anyone else has any experience with the T7 toner management and could it be causing severe undertoning leading to missing colours?

    Thanks!

Overtoning has not been the issue for us. It's undertoning. And no, I haven't used the T7 toner management setting. Is that what your "fix" is? =^..^=

Re: Kyocera FS-C5350DN - No magenta on prints

    Hi blackcat

The T7 was a cure to a terrible overtoning problem we were having. The customer was printing everything in eco mode, and we believe this lead to overtoning and dropping toner (mostly on black) due to excess toner in the dev unit. The T7 appeared to fix this issue by adjusting the toner going into the dev unit (i think it dumped toner into the waste toner). However we are now seeing quite a few cases where machines are missing the magenta on prints as described previously; to which we have no solution. We are running several machines on full colour mode in the hope that it stops this problem.
