MX812 Testing and Replacing Operation (control) Panel.

I want to replace the Operation Panel on the Dell B5645nf with another unit that is working.
I am using a Lexmark 812 manual and found a *disturbing/confusing note on the disassembly:

    Control panel removal (MX81x)
Warning—Potential Damage: When replacing the control panel, control panel board, or controller board, replace
only one component at a time. Replace the required component and perform a POR before replacing a second
component. If this procedure is not followed, the printer will be rendered inoperable. Never replace both the control
panel and the controller board without a POR after installing each one or the printer will be rendered inoperable.

*Never install or remove these components as a method of troubleshooting while operating in normal user mode.
See “Controller board/control panel replacement” on page 268.
Warning—Potential Damage: When a component has been installed in a machine and has been powered up in
normal user mode, it cannot be used in another machine; it must be returned to the manufacturer. The machine
must be powered up in Diagnostic mode
or the controller board, control panel boards, or control panel will become
    locked.

Can I test Operation panel on another machine in safety mode?

The main pwbs, and operation panel will be 'married' to the machine if powered up normally. To test pwbs, power up in 'diag' mode - press and hold the 3 and 6 (to be safe, I held the two buttons until the motors kicked in). If pwb does not fixed problem, it can be returned to stock.

If the board you'd like to install has been used, it is already married to another machine and will not work in your Dell. The replacement boards are initialized ... ready to marry to another machine. A used board won't work, in service mode or not. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I was referring to a new un-used pwb that had not been initialized by a normal power up sequence. Sorry, for the confusion.

    Not a criticism ... a qualification. =^..^=
