    XC9235 black banding

New to Lexmark but have 25 years experience- so far I can say i do not like their documentation, their dealer network websites are a mess and training seems limited...

The scan I have attached will not show the fact that these bands go completely edge to edge.

The color registration WAAAAY out of whack must just be the machine is unable to align due to the black on everything.

Customer states it does this with both the new black drum unit and the old unit but I have new drums on the way per Tech Support.
To me it looks like the PCR roller or the drum grounding is borked.
I removed drum/dev/ITB and checked/reseated everything - reseated all the ribbon cables - checked all the HVT points I could find.
Did not have much time in front of the machine - last call of the day and they kicked me out as it was quitting time.

Thoughts on the issue or Lexmark in general?

    *fixed*

It was the black drum unit.

The customer must have been incorrect in the way they remembered.

Looked like there is some silicone goop (looks and feels like jelly) inbetween the PCR roller and it's electrical connection spring.

Were it not a defective RMA that's going back to Lexmark, I would probably fix the silly thing.

    Angry Re: XC9235 black banding

    *not fixed*

Issue came back after I left...it's really odd.

Lexmark manual is not useful and tech support seems to be outsourced to India. Person on the line don't seem to have any knowledge of copiers; has nothing to offer for trouble shooting anything; puts you on hold forever to to talk to the one guy in the building that must know anything then returns with "order a transfer belt assembly"

I can't fathom it being the ITB.

Here is a better set of scans on the issue attached..okay..attachment upload fails so:
    Dropbox - DOC050319-05032019084148.pdf - Simplify your life

Since the issue went away when I had the machine turned off for the weekend...must be a board problem..leaking memory perhaps.
I don't have any of these machine lying around and shot-gun ordering boards is not really going to cut it from the bosses perspective.

I'm noticing the C,M & Y color bars are not aligned properly on the config pages. I'm betting it's either one of the color PC's throwing things off or the ITB. I don't have the manual, but, I'm sure there's a way to run the machine without the PC's installed to pin the issue down.

ok finally got to look at the examples...

you have ALL colors in fine lines down the page..

I think what you are going to find is a laser misalignment issue.

saw this on one of the lower class lexi's

you will need the service manual and a high powered jewelers type loupe
to define and adjust the alignment of the colors ( much like the friggin Ricoh adjustments )

you might want to look in the SM and see if there is a recommended paper type/bright/weight needed for the print outs.. (you supply the paper.. you MIGHT need a good part of it!)

Xerox 6500(?) was another PIA to complete this adjustment.

Is that what I think it is? I've never seen those test pages look like that before.

I believe that the color registration is not working because of the black background. Color registration is set based on black as a reference. I haven't seen a bad laser in a long time, but I think its a bad black laser.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

BC zoom in on the pic..see the separate color lines?

    Re: XC9235 black banding

I was thinking it was electronic in nature - bad memory or something wrong with the print engine CPU. The lines seem to 'perfect' to be a developer bias issue ...Not seen a laser go bad like with is a long time.

Right now were are trying to figure out how to get some support from Lexmark - their call in dealer support is garbage.

Not all that familiar with these things, so far I am not impressed with their support network, their monstrosity of a website(s) and the service manuals.
Machine is one month out of warranty and so far the only thing I am getting is 'order things until it's fixed'

Near as I can find this stupid thing has no color only internal test prints and since sooooombody was kind and gracious enough to put together this nice set of test pages...
