    Lexmark X642 - 5 beeps problem

Hi guys. I'm having this issue with an lexmark x642. The display panel is blank, the led is off and it beeps 5 times, pauses, beeps 5 times again etc. I have checked the cable from the op panel right cover to the scanner board and it seems ok. Before i blame the op panel right cover, is there anything else i should check? Thanks

5 beeps is an op panel code. Re-seat all the connections on the main board or replace op panel.

Failing to plan is planning to fail!!!

Hate to admit it, but had one doing same thing. Reinserted all connectors with no change. A good swift slap to the left panel took care of the problem. Good luck.

Before replacing the operator panel, check the wire that runs to it from the scanner control board. There is a small metal piece on the frame that can rub against it and damage it (see pic below). If that wire is bad, you'll have to replace the upper front cover hing assembly (40X3309). Lexmark didn't spare this cable by itself. The next likely culprit would be the scanner card (40X3305), then operator panel (40X3301), then inverter card (40X3304).
