MFX-2850 The Write Error to a Port has occured. Printing is Finished.

I am quite certain this is a network issue rather than an issue with the copier but have to ask if anyone has experience with this error?
Of course the customers IT person thinks it is the copier. Even though it does not happen all the time. It may do this 2 or 3 times in a row then be fine for a day or a week. Their IT person has re-installed drivers and software.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Try a different port and cat5 cable. Run 'ping IP -t' and check the reply times - if they vary a lot, it could be a traffic problem.

Did you use the installer disk to create the driver? Does it have a PCL option? I've seen this error before, years ago, but can't recall exactly what had to be done to solve it. I would start by blowing away the driver and also delete any driver reference under the driver properties area. Then, reboot computer. Load the driver from the disk setup file and allow the driver to discover the machine online, if possible. If you can't find the disk, download the driver from Muratec and run it.

Muratec drivers are weird. My least favorite drivers of all time, 2nd is Konica. Muratec drivers sometimes manipulate ports when they load, especially their older units which create their own MFX_.... ports. Very annoying. That's because their older units were not standard TCP/IP ports, but the 2850 should use a standard port.

Anyway, good luck. I really think blowing away the driver and trying to reinstall might work. A good test is to create a test driver using a generic HP driver to see if you get the same error to rule out a driver problem.

Make sure you delete the port on the workstation before you reboot too. Then, load the driver again using the setup file.

Depending what operating system the computer is using, the likely culprit is the firewall or virus program is blocking inbound/outbound traffic. if when the driver was installed there likely was a popup dialog box that became visible. The user sometimes hurries over these and closes them out. This will restrict the port. The simple remedy is to uninstall the driver completely, restart the computer, and reinstall the driver. When the search dialog box appears, select "refresh" to search for the ip address of the machine. Sometimes the "unblock" dialog box will appear, but beneanth the other dialog boxes. Select it from the bottom open program bar to bring it to the surface and select "unblock". If you manually input the ip address of the machine, you have no indication if it is being blocked.

    Hope this helps.

I beleive what it turned out to be was they had a "friend" who was an IT guy and he changed the IP from fixed to DHCP. So apparently the IP would change from time to time and when this happens you get the A Write Error to a port has occured error. Sometime they would turn off the copier to try and reset. If the IP was re-assigned correctly it would start printing again.

This error usually only happens when there is an IP conflict on the network. If you run across the "Write Error to a port has occurred, printing is finished" again, unplug the network cable from the Muratec and then PING the IP address. If you get a reply, then they would need to go back and figure out what device is using that IP address.
