xerox phaser 4400 E2 jam misfeed

I went to a xerox phaser 4400 with jamming from the MP tray.

The printer prints fine with no jams from the cassette.

The paper is taken to the registration sensor then stops and reports 'E2 Jam Misfeed'.

The registration sensor is working fine when printing from the casssette.

I have replaced the MBF chute which has the paper pickup components on the MP tray but still I get this jam. . .
Running out of ideas now and can only suspect a possible electrical fault?
