Oki C9200 - intermitent problem with Magenta head

I have an Oki C9200 and intermittently it prints solid magenta toner starting about 3 inches (+/-) and continues the entire length of the sheet. It looks solid but when I look at it with a loupe it is lines aprox. 1/64" wide with about that much space in between them. I tried replacing the magenta print head cable with a new one & even swapped the magenta head with the black one and then it printed black lines instead of magenta. This is what is weird, it only does it when I print from the computer, if I do a test print from the machine menu it prints fine! Can anybody help me with this one????

Could you be more specific. Like what application you use to print, what operating system and what driver you're using (PCL or Postscript).

The Postscript driver gives sometimes better results than the PCL driver.

Window XP platform, postscript driver and every application from Word to PDF to Photoshop and many others. I am suspecting a controller board for the magenta issue but not sure.

I think you're right about the controller. When switching LED-Heads doesn't solve it, the problem should lie in the controller. When you're printing directly from the machine it's OK, so the engine board should be working OK.

Did I read right that when u move the head from magenta to black that the problem move to black? If so, sounds like the head has an issue!

I have to agree with copytechman.

You've already solved your problem. When you moved the problem from the magenta to the black, the only part that moved was the LED head. You need to replace the LED head that is now in the black location. =^..^=

I didn't word my post right, I switched the cables so the black signal went to the magenta head and the magenta signal went to the black head and it printed black.

In that case, i'd try the pcl driver 1st and if it produces the same result your problem is (likely) down to one of 2 boards , the printer board and/or the system board, tough to say which, one is the i/o board for all the internal sensors and printheads and the other is the main processor that tells them what to do.. .. try pcl driver 1st... and go from there.
    Regards!
