Bring Your Child To Work

Having mentioned it offhand a few times to my manager, and each time received a "go ahead, he might enjoy it" response, I now have to ask the following:

Have any of you fine folk ever brought your child/children/offspring/charge/charges/ward/wards/spawn/sprog to the workplace and actually had them assist you in your duties?

I'm thinking when The Boy is 9 or 10 he might be more apt to help me (handing tools or parts, learning what section does what to the paper, etc.) but he seems more interested in my work now at age 7, so I can only hope that I remain in this field and his interest grows.

I took mine with me once when he was around 14, he enjoyed it and we got to spend some quality time together. I talked with my boss before hand and was given the OK to do this, but one of the customers during the day complained that they were on the hook if an accident were to injure him, so they said "never again". Before my office moved a few years ago, there was a daycare center just across the street.

The 2 buildings often got confused.

I did a call a while back at a trucking company. The little tyke was maybe 5 or 6. He asked me if he could help, and assured me that he helps his father all the time, and knows the tools.

He was quite helpful. Not overly chatty, and attentively watched for opportunities to get stuff for me. My favorite part was at the end when he fetched my 3" pair of Channel Locks. His comment was: "They're so small! I can't even lift Dad's!" He was the perfect assistant.

Actually, it is kinda of intriquing to see the reactions of some of the kids. Some are shy, some are like, just don't want to be here, not interested and some are very enthusiastic to be with their parent and get a bit involved in the chores given. Most of all is the dress type, hair colour and shoes. Interesting i must say. I think it is a good experience to see how money is earned and how people behave in the work environment.
