    Paper Dust

Had a call a couple of weeks ago for a copy quality issue at a municipal customer and found a broken charge wire on the grid of a Kyocera 5050. The charge grid was replaced and the unit thoroughly cleaned, including the wiper on the registration roller. The unit was coming due for a PM so informed the customer we would be back the next day to do the full PM. Since they were in the midst of they budget cycle they requested that we delay it for a few days until they were done printing their budgets and proposals. OK! Returned 3 days later as requested to do the PM and found the paper dust accumulated on the registration roller cleaning assembly as shown in the attached pix. They had run 6,300 pages in the three days and this is what it looked like. We also have had an increase in the number of calls for "squeaks" only to clean bushings of "paper dust" and re-lube them to solve the squeak.

    Anyone else seeing this problem?

People think " paper is paper" what they don't know is.. cheaper paper has a lot of "powder" to keep the sheets from sticking together..and you will also find there are lots of paper slivers in the cheaper paper also

Tell your customer to switch to a higher grade paper ( will reduce jams and the issue you stated)

Interesting!.....as they say, "You Get What You Pay For"!

Anyway, I had a location (a church) that had custom offset printed bulletins.

Long story short, the printer had used so much "offset powder" (helps the ink dry and keeps pages from sticking together) which is kind of like talcum powder on the pages that it would foul the pick up feed rollers making them slick and unable to pick up the paper to print!...referred the customer back to the printer to have their custom job reprinted with LESS offset powder!...DOH!

It is not a CQ poet. It is a rant about paper dust from cheap crappy paper.

The problem is t hat he said it was "a municipal customer". That means city government. That means very tight budget. Also usually means that they are expected to support local businesses. I have a print shop at an elementary school district with 2 production machines. The person in charge of the print shop has worked for years for commercial printers. He know the importance of quality paper. I found a source that provides a paper that is superior to what you get from Office Depot, etc, and costs less in the quantity he needs. He orders bright white letter size 20# bond by the truck load. Lasts him just over 1 year. Print shop is a one end of their warehouse so he has plenty of room for storage.

That's all? Man you should have seen some of the school machines I had to go clean when I first started in this field. Mountains of paper dust piled up on that open area behind that felt cleaner. Schools around here get "donated" paper from the paper mills...in other words the crap they can't sell.

Typical. You'll get a new camel hair brush in the kit.

I had a Sharp Dragon I series that was paper skewing and jamming at the registration roller. There was so much paper dust after only 50K that the registration roller would not turn at all. Worst paper ever.

    =^..^=

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.

Yuck. Reminds me of a KM 500's paper dust cleaner.

    Whatever
