The ads on CTN are getting out of control

Is anyone else seeing inappropriate ads here on CTN?

Is it just me, or is this getting crazy?

Most ads nowadays are "personalized" depending on the user navigating "habits", say for instance if you use to visit fishing stuff often, the ads displayed will be fishing items and so on, if you are using someones else PC the ads will be personalized for his/her visits history,

To avoid this clean your PC often with a navigation cleaner, I use CCLEANER and I eliminate tons of useless cookies embedded in my PC after every daily use.
I don't know where and how, etc. google it or wait for someone else suggesting other cleaner or something different. just my 2 cents.

I understand that, but I don't go to any sites that would attract such ads.

Of course, it's certainly possible that sites that seem totally harmless could associate with the questionable ones.

Even at that, I frequently delete all the cookies that collect, as well as my browsing history, just to keep the clutter down.

Checked if the ads are in any way shape or form related to anything you or anyone else might have searched on you computer. Ad Choice uses recent searches to generate ad content. I will frequent search to fact check something someone has posted on Facebook and for a couple of days get ads related to what I searched.

In that case, I'll turn my adblock off.

I've raised this in the site feedback forum.

I'm on a company device, being used over a VPN that has never been used for searching inappropriate material and I constantly get adverts for foreign dating sites. Give it chance, a customer will be looking over my shoulder when I'm looking on here for a fault resolution, a scantily-clad Russian bint will adorn an advert and an official complaint will soon follow.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

It is more likely that you are seeing those ads because of imbedded cookies that may not be part of the actual banner ads for a website selling impact wrenches. That banner ad may be for the john doe tool company, but the coding for his ad may have been written by a someone that is also paid to place extra little third and fourth party cookies from whoever is paying them to place their advertising. Ran into that when looking at a relatives computer. She does not surf to porn websites but for some reason all of a sudden a few months ago she started getting popups for porn websites. When I looked at her cookies there they were. I also checked to see if her browser was set to accept third party cookies. It was. She changed it because one of her games websites insisted on allowing them so she let the automated script from the website turn them on. You gotta remember that these cookie ads are paid to the advertising websites on the basis on tenths of a penny per hit. Not a lot of money for slow websites. But lots of money if they can get them popping up on popular websites like say Facebook which has billions of visitors per week. I get warning from Zynga, a games page on Facebook, that I am supposed to turn all cookies on. Then I checked on the stats of just one game, 400,000 players daily. So that one tenth of a cent per banner ad, they have at least three per screen is earning a them 1,200 dollars just to use a number. Adsense reads those cookies and sends ads to browsers that have multiple copies of the cookies allowed. Most of the cookies also include active scripting to allow them to actually reply to an inquiry and accept new banner ads, the other reason you should reject third party cookies. Heck a few years ago one of the software companies active in anti-virus software did a study on where the most viruses were being downloaded. Turns out the porn websites were a distant second to the celebrity gossip websites.

Get rid of Chrome (the browser that spies) and use firefox with adblock plus. I never get browser driven ads.

Agreed. I had Chrome for a very short time when it was first released. Did not like it so I uninstalled it. Or so I thought. Week or so later my firewall asks if I want chrome to access the internet. Yeah it was that long ago still using XP. Anyway I ran regedit and discovered Chrome was still active and still downloading updates all into a hidden file. Used regedit to get rid of the registry object that had chrome or google updater in the description or file name. Funny thing I do have to use gmail every now and then. And boy is the spam there outrageous. The only time I used gmail was to set up chrome, a required step back then. And one relative insists on using gmail. Never used the gmail account for any website sign up or other use besides those two. I average 200 spams a day with that one email account'
