ANY great ideas on how to quickly destroy hardware chips? Memory in particular?

like it has been said... hammer time!

for HDD's I use a Philips head screw driver punching about 4-6 holes thru the casing and platters..

Attach a ground to the ground pin on the chip and 24VDC on the other pins.

Try a Hammer, if it's hard to access you can put an old Phillip's head screwdriver on the top of the chip and then use the hammer. All you really need to do is wedge something under the chip and pry it or a few legs off of it or break the board they are attached, no one is going to go though he trouble of rebuilding a chip to get someones fax address book.
