Re: Do you believe that Climate Change is real and caused by mankind?

Here's what bugs me about the environmental movement... and really, any movement on the left. They're never about doing things. They're only about restricting others from doing things.

Take Algore. What exactly has he done for the environment? I think the most you could say is that he stopped other people from destroying it. That's the biggest claim they could possibly make. He didn't come up with a way to reduce CO2. He didn't find a new plant that would use more CO2 and convert it back into oxygen. He didn't create some new filter that would reduce emissions. He didn't DO anything, except make a few unsuccessful films. The left is ALWAYS about restricting. NEVER about helping.

Now if you go to the right, then you see some action. Even in the anti crowds... like the anti-abortion crowd. True--they want to restrict, but they go so far beyond that. They raise millions of dollars to help young, single mothers. They run countless mental health organizations to help mothers who have aborted their babies and are trying to deal with the guilt. They have out-reach programs to show women that they actually have options. Their activities trickle down into the various industries that create the 'need' for abortion: pornography, prostitution, sex trafficking, etc.,. The pro-life movement is all about ACTION.

The same could be said about most right-wing movements.

Even the ones that have, for some reason, been claimed by the left. For example, the fight against poverty. Just look at all of the left-wing actions taken to help with poverty. EVERY SINGLE one of them has failed and only produced more poverty. But if you look into the way it's handled on the right, through charities and local churches, it's successful.

It almost doesn't matter to me what the subject is. If the left is promoting something, I can know without any doubt, that it revolves around restricting people... and that even restricting people won't solve whatever problem they're claiming exists.

Classic, just classic!! When the "left" restrict it is bad. When the "right" restrict it is good. I get it now. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

In response to the wildfires which for the last week has been destroying many acres of forests, homes and businesses in Southern California, Governor Jerry Brown has a sobering message for residents.

"This is kind of the new normal. Extreme fire activity will happen on a regular basis for decades. With climate change, some scientists are saying that Southern California is literally burning up."

Southern California received abundant rainfall last winter which caused an explosion in plant growth. The summer/ fall has been abnormally dry which caused all of the new vegetation to dry out. The Santa Anna winds coming down from the mountains have been unusually strong this year and a perfect situation was created to produce wildfires.

I think that was an irresponsible statement.

While the number of acres burned has gone up in the past decade, the number of fires has gone down. We could speculate all we want on why, but we should keep in mind that ALL of it is speculation. One possible explanation is that the way we manage land has changed. We conduct a lot more managed fires now, creating areas with grass and weeds where there would normally be shrubbery with little or no grass. Not only that, but we damn rivers and create ecosystems in places that might normally be arid--bringing more plant life and more possibility fire spread.

It would seem that if global warming was responsible, there would be more fires instead of less.

It stands to reason that if the fires are larger then there would be less opportunities for smaller fires. At least, it seems logical to me anyway.

I'm not sure what article you read, but this one states nothing about "tree huggers". It simply states that the old regulations may need to be updated to better contend with today's changing weather.

there are many on the "tree hugger" vein ... some say it was was from a FEDERAL order...

Inefficiencies, protecting fish leads to wasting water in California - The San Diego Union-Tribune

it all depends on which report you read... "endangered species" usually means the "environmentalists" are involved .. hence 'tree huggers'

I was commenting on the news report you posted in post # 277. I mentions nothing about endangered species.
The term endangered species just means that specific species is close to extinction. It doesn't have anything to do with tree huggers. It is fact. Whether or not you believe it personally doesn't change anything.
