Re: How Russia hacked the Democrats email
Reading the last post a new phrase popped out to myself.
"False flag personas"
Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats told the Senate Intelligence Committee Tuesday.
"The Russians utilize this tool because it's relatively cheap, it's low risk, it offers what they perceive as plausible deniability and it's proven to be effective at sowing division," he told the annual hearing on worldwide threats. "We expect Russia to continue using propaganda, social media, false flag personas, sympathetic spokesmen, and other means of influence to try to build on its wide range of operations and exacerbate social and political fissures in the United States."
“Frankly, the United States is under attack,” he said."
The contemporary term false flag describes covert operations that are designed to deceive in such a way that activities appear as though they are being carried out by individual entities, groups, or nations other than those who actually planned and executed them.

Re: How Russia hacked the Democrats email
Russia-linked bots are promoting pro-gun messages on Twitter in an attempt to sow discord in the aftermath of the Florida school shooting, monitoring groups say.
Hashtags, topics, and URLs related to the shooting overwhelmingly feature in the tweets pushed by these automated Twitter accounts in the past 48 hours, according to Hamilton 68, a tool launched by the Alliance for Securing Democracy to track what it describes as "Russian propaganda and disinformation efforts online."

Dems to Trump: Still think Russia investigation is a ‘hoax’?
Democrats lashed out Friday at President Donald Trump after the investigation he has called a "hoax" and a "witch hunt" resulted in the indictment of 13 Russian nationals on charges of interfering in the 2016 election.
"For all of those who have been asking, 'where is the evidence of a crime?' — this is it. This is the criminal conspiracy," Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, the top Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said in a statement. "Today's indictments show precisely how the Russians worked to help the Trump campaign, in startling and extensive detail."

Re: How Russia hacked the Democrats email
One of the ways that the Russians inluenced the elections was to try and convince minority voters to either not vote or vote for a 3rd party candidate.
Both actions would have hurt Clinton who rec'd significant support from minority voters.
Approx 58% of the American population voted in the 2016 Presidential election leaving approx 90 million Amercians who did not vote.
An American citizen Richard Pinedo pleaded guilty to using identities stolen from US citizens to bypass the security systems of online payment companies like PayPal. These stolen identities were purchased by the Russians who in turn purchased computer resources within the USA to help mask the origins of their attack.

Trump's claims of Russian meddling as a 'hoax' hit choppy waters with FBI indictments
For two years, Donald Trump — as both candidate and president — has frequently dismissed the notion of Russian meddling in U.S. elections as a "hoax" and even denigrated heads of U.S. intelligence agencies for suggesting otherwise.
At times he has also taken Russian President Vladimir Putin's word on the issue.

Approx 58% of the American population voted in the 2016 Presidential election leaving approx 90 million Amercians who did not vote.
Black turnout in the 2016 election dropped for the first time in a presidential election in 20 years, according to findings by the Pew Research Center. Turnout fell from a record-high 66.6% in 2012 to 59.6% in 2016, the Pew Research Center found, the largest drop on record for blacks.
At two rallies in December 2017, Trump appeared to expressed appreciation to black voters for not turning up to the polls.
“They didn't come out to vote for Hillary. They didn't come out,” Trump said at a rally in Hershey, Pa. “And that was a big — so thank you to the African-American community.”
He made similar remarks in Michigan, saying African American voters “came through big league.”
“If they had any doubt, they didn't vote,” he said. “And that was almost as good.”

Re: How Russia hacked the Democrats email
It is illegal in the USA to use foreign funds to influence federal elections.
The FBI is now investigating whether or not the Kremlin via a top Russian banker illegally funneled money through the NRA to assist the Trump campaign win the election.
The NRA reported spending a record $55M on the 2016 elections including $30M to support Trump, triple what the group devoted to backing Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential race. Most of that money was spent by an arm of the NRA that is not required to disclose its donors known as the NRA institute for Legislative Action.
The Russian banker, Alexander Torshin, has been indited by Spanish authorities for money laundering and is described as a godfather in Russian criminal enterprises. Torshin is know to have have met with Donald Trump Jr. at least twice.
The scope of the Meuller investigation is now looking at how Russia may have in part funded the Trump campaign.
