    Re: Hurricane Florence

Do you guys near the coast have to build stronger houses? As you go further north along Queensland coast the building regulations get tougher and tougher to cope with cyclonic winds. New houses up around Cairns are getting close to nuclear bomb proof.
Anyway stay safe, we're thinking of you.

not only stronger but MOST have to be built on 'stilts ' to pass the flooding codes.

yes building codes are different regions of the state... MOST houses ( newer ) are built to a stronger code. As with in the mountain areas require a steeper pitch on the roof and more insulation in floors walls ceilings.

    Re. Building codes
One of my sons is a qualified carpenter who is now an industrial building inspector, he checks the builder/construction company work competency against the original engineers plans. If anything deviates away from the engineers original design when its constructed it's then flagged for reconstruction.

Anyway, the above son did a stint of travel in the USA, and while he was over that way he watch some of the carpenters and their building practices being done. He was amazed at the different conformity for the Australian building codes to the American building codes.

He gave me a detail explanation, but the major differences where in fixing. He said the number of nails and bolts placed in timbers fall way short of safe when compared to Australian building codes.

In closing he said he fully understands why the American older buildings can withstand hurricanes and tornadoes, but the newer buildings blow away like paper.

He went into other details, but the above explains the most relevant.

    Stay safe. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
