Lets clean up corruption and talk about change with this:

Obama transition members have Fannie ties

    11/12/08 8:05 PM EST

Wendy Sherman was president and CEO of the Fannie Mae Foundation.

President-elect Barack Obama’s transition team leaders for the State Department are both Clinton-era department officials with links to the troubled mortgage giant Fannie Mae.

Tom Donilon, a lawyer who was one of President Bill Clinton’s State Department spokesmen and its chief of staff, was a top lobbyist for Fannie Mae from 1999 to 2005.

Obama’s other State Department team leader, Wendy Sherman, was president and CEO of the Fannie Mae Foundation from 1996 to 1997, between two tours at the State Department – one as a legislative liaison for Secretary Warren Christopher and another as counselor to Secretary Madeleine Albright.

Neither Donilon nor Sherman has worked for Fannie Mae in the last year, and neither would be advising the transition on housing issues.

Obama transition spokesman Tom Vietor declined comment on the Fannie Mae connection.

Donilon has kept his hand in national security issues on the Council on Foreign Relations and the Aspen Strategy Group. He donated $12,860 to federal candidates this election cycle, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, giving first to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), then to Obama.

Sherman, who now works for the international consulting firm The Albright Group, has worked in and out of government and politics throughout her career.

Before joining the Clinton administration, she was an EMILY’s List strategist, who helped elect female candidates to Congress in 1992.

Recently, she was named to the Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism. In this election cycle, she donated $11,400 to federal candidates, first to Clinton, then to Obama.

Like the diplomatic team, Obama’s defense team leaders are also rooted in the Clinton era.

Defense adviser John White, a professor at Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, was a deputy defense secretary from 1995 to 1997 and an assistant secretary of defense in the Carter administration.

White also has ties to industry.

He’s on the boards of directors of L-3 Communications, the sixth largest defense company in the United States, and of the International Resources Group, a professional services company that works with more than 100 countries and with Chevron, ExxonMobil, General Electric and Westinghouse.

IRG is also working to revamp the energy resources of Pakistan, according to reports in the Pakistani press.

His teammate, Michele Flournoy, has been a defense analyst in recent years, moving from the National Defense University to the Center for Strategic and International Studies and now leading the Center for New American Security.

Flournoy, along with her colleague Kurt Campbell, are frequently mentioned as candidates for under secretary of defense for policy or other positions under Obama in the Defense Department.

The two have championed a pragmatic approach to national security, according to the New York Observer.

Flournoy donated just $2,500 this cycle, giving some to Clinton and Obama and to Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), who has been mentioned as a candidate for defense secretary.
