    Developers and toners

I understand what toners are but what are developers?
They look like liquid and do some printers require both?

    Wow! Where to start?

Well for beginners developer and toner are dry, no liquid for the last 10 years.

Developer is a mixture of ferrite or iron filings, combined with toner. The individual particles of developer are coated with resin allowing them to build up a triboelectric charge (essentially static electricity). This triboelectric effect attracts a sphere of toner particles to each developer particle.

The toner particles are essentially charged bits of plastic. When the developer mixture is rotated around the mag roller (or developing roller) the ferrite particles clings to the mag roller with the toner particles projecting away from the mag roller. As these toner particles pass the charged areas of the drum the toner jumps over to the drum in those areas.

That describes Dual Component developing. Single or MonoComponent developing is only different in that monocomponent toner contains both toner and developer particles, and that there is no replentishing of toner, the entire mixture is consumed.

    So thats Developing 101.
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

    OOOkkkeeeyyyyyyy... ;-)
No actually that was very clear. Thanks

The question arose because i came across some ebay listing which had toner and others which had developers. The Toners came in a plastic container which fits directly into the respective printer where as the developers were sold in bags similar to SunnyD beverage packaging so i assumed they were liquid.

    Thanks again
