    New techs in the forum

Is it just me or does it bother anyone else? What i seem to notice is that new techs show up and tend to respond to every single post on their first visit. Now this is not what really bothers me, what really bothers me is that they then contradict and put down the posts of other long time and well respected members WTFIT? I know I was new once too and maybe I did the same thing ( I don't think so ) but being new I probably didn't know better. Anyway I just wanted to vent rather than taking it out on the new member.

You can leave them a negative comment in their reputation and drop a note in it that says something constructive like, "lets all try to help out and be constructive". They will see your comments next time they log in.

    New techs in the forum

Most of it is not what they are suggesting but how they are saying it. If they said:

    "You could also check...",
    "Sometimes it's...",
or "I've seen...happen a lot of times when I've had this problem"

    It works better than:

"What... said is completely wrong,..." or
"...doesn't know what they're talking about"

My 2 cents to the new posters:
No tech knows everything or has seen everything. I've fixed problems 30 year techs couldn't figure out and I've had wet behind the ears students, who didn't even know how to use a screwdriver, point out a mistake I was making. What makes you so sure that you have ALL the answers? All you can do is speak from your own experience. Don't discredit others, but have respect for one another. We're posting to help other people, not to be the be all end all, self proclaimed guru of the forum world. This isn't a competition, and respect is earned. Discrediting someone else won't get you respect, either.

    You tell 'em, prntrfxr. =^..^=

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.

Amen..... Have you also noticed that the offending posts are on threads that have been dead for a while? I don't mind anyones 2 cents when I am trying to resolve a problem, but on an old thread? I agree with prntrfxr, you can add "Mayby you can try -" or "I have experienced this" not bash a previous answer "FROM SEVERAL MONTHS AGO"..... Inhale.... Exhale... OK I'm fine now.

Well, I certainly hope I am not offending anyone. And too bad if I am....

    Kidding....really....

But in all honesty, I would hope ya guys put me in my place if I ask for it. I'll often try to be impartial, and perhaps at times I might be condescending, but for the most part, I agree, we are all here to help one another. I may be new here, but I've been doing this a while so I feel compelled to share what I know.

It is just about respect. People can post their ideas without saying anything about anybody else, and let the person asking the question decide what is good info. I think if you are going to post to a long thread, you should read all of the post so you are not repeating info that has already been given.

Democracy is still the worst form of government, except for all the rest of them.
