There has been several times having to take a water taxi outside the breakwater of Long Beach Harbor to a oil super tanker.

We would come along side in 4 to 6 foot swells trying to step onto a rope jacobs ladder then climb 4 to 5 stories up the side of this tanker. It was bad enough sucking wind when you got to the top you still had 4 stories to climb to the bridge.

They put your tools in a bag and rope them up.

Then you had to climb back down this rope ladder and time it just right to step off onto the water taxi.

Don't think i have it in me to do this anymore...

I used to service machines at a place that made explosives for hand gernades and rockets. The plant blew up a couple of times, so I would get in there and fix the machine and get out ASAP. Do you blame me?

Not sure if this is interesting or not - I certainly didn't want to know...

I was working backup for another tech at a one of the major hospitals in the area when I got lost and discovered the morgue sitting right next to "food services"

That's right, the kitchen shares a wall with the dead. I was still staring at the doors when a pair of (orderlies?) (interns??) (BodySnatchers???) thumped the morgue door open and just about made me change my underwear.

SmartAss me just couldn't keep my mouth shut, I motioned to the doors standing right next to eachother and babbled something like "This is so when hospital food kills somebody they don't have far to go, right? Or did I just discover the source of the mystery meat they serve here. A continuous cycle maybe?"

As bad as I was, their answer was worse. "It was designed that way intentionally. In case of an epidemic and the morgue is overloaded they can use the food service freezers to keep the dead from rotting and spreading infection until they arrange disposal."

    Speechless.

    Totally Speechless.

And darn near had to scrape me off the floor. I certainly wanted to melt down into my shoes and shuffle off... Someplace private so I could bang my head against the wall until amnesia set in.

Now, either they had heard this before and came up with a snappy answer they were just -uh- dying to use, or its really true.

Did anybody else know this??? I still have nitemares, only just before I wake up screaming one of the orderlies says something like "Tastes Just Like Chicken"

Many years ago I had to service a copier inside the old maximum security gaol at Boggo Rd in Brisbane. When those big iron gates clanged shut behind you a shiver ran down your spine. This was the place where they locked the real bad bastards up and you could smell the fear in there, Ronny Barker and “Porridge” it wasn’t! (Pommy joke) The place was so bad they had to build a new gaol as it was so old and corrupt and steeped in evil all they could do was knock it down and start again.
If you wanted any incentive to stay on the straight and narrow try spending an hour or two locked up with a bunch of murderers and rapists. Strangely enough it was never the crims that broke the copier but the screws that beat the crap out of it!
At least 50% of IT is a solution looking for a problem.

Nothing too crazy, strip club and a nuclear power plant for me. A guy I used to work with worked on a liquid machine on a submarine--I thought that was pretty cool.

If you've ever serviced medium to high security prison accounts the security is tighter.

I had a 25 pc tool kit which I used only on prison sites. The manifest of items was registered at all the sites, and the contents was checked individually before and after each visit. I also had a vendor photo ID, which made it considerably smoother. And the prerequisite security checks.

I was patted down going in. Checked in my shoes, between my toes, in my mouth and ears. Through the metal detector, and escorted to the locked room. I was either accompanied or locked into the room with the copier. When I was ready to leave I would call the extension of the guard shack to come and escort me out.

The worst thing you can do is try to rush or act nervous. A pal of mine filled in for me while I was on vacation. It normally took 1 hr to get on site, and 1/2 hr to get back out to the car (good planning was important here, no quick trips to the car).

My pal was in a hurry, and when they find out that your in a hurry it takes three times longer. They completely strip-searched my co-worker. He was there all day. He was delighted when I returned from vacation.

I remember one memorable visit when I finished the last dregs of a tube of superglue, and made the mistake of tossing it in a trash basket. It took us three hours to locate the spent tube of superglue, in the folds of plastic trash bag liner. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

A local prison. Hated going. Was a big time waster with all the searches and waiting for an escort and all.

Got to work at a house that the Secret Service used as a place to monitor George W Bush's residence while Bush Sr was Prez. Had to get parts, so got to converse with a couple of different agents. Interesting the different personalities. One was a cool guy just like you'd meet in a bar and strike up a conversation. Another was like an uptight ***hole.
