Do you have a company car?

Just curious. How many techs get a company vehicle. And if you do, is it nice, ok or a pos?

We drive our own vehicles and get a monthly allowance, gas card and a tax form to write off maintenance, insurance and licensing.

I did have a company car for another company I worked for. Until you have one you don't realize how much the company is getting from you by having you use your own vehicle. It was nice having a gas card an not paying for insurance or repairs, but oil changes, washes, repairs were all done on company time with the company car.

Oh, trust me, I have all my maintenance done on company time. The only real down side is that my car will retire / expire far faster than if I had an office / factory job. I do feel we are reasonably compensated for the use of our own cars.

We had company cars years ago, it was nice not having to worry about a car payment or insurance. The down side was the company name in huge letters all over it, not good when your out on Friday night parked at the bar, or your passing someone, swerving in and out of lanes flipping people off(opps got carried away, not me of course).

Plus, the car they gave us was a Ford Escort, com'on now, a Ford Escort was ok when I was 25, but I'm a long way past 25 now and I need a bigger more comfortable car cause I'm in and out of it all day long.

We get looked after really well. We all have company cars, either being a Holden Commodore Sportwagon (pictured), or Subaru Outback's. They get changed over with new every 3 years.

I have the sportwagon, due to being too tall for the Subaru's and I carry too much stock, so I need the bigger car anyways. The picture is not my actual car, as they are silver with a small Sharp logo on the side. Picture shown is the same model, just blue.

The first company I worked for gave us a vehicle, but we had to front the money for gas. When the company was bought out, the new controller decided that once a month was often enough for reimbursment, instead of once a week. At the time I was putting about $100 to $150 a week in my car. I had to have a negotiation with the controller and general manager. Within a few months we had credit cards. What I thought was funny was that one of the things the company liked to brag about was that it was a Fortune 500 company, but I was giving them interest free loans of about 25% of my salary.
