    That message is clearly junk/spam.

    a) You didn't know the sender (I assume)
    b) The message came out of nowhere without any context to you (no reply to any message you sent or continuing some previous conversation)
    c) The message is pointless (just some random quote)
    d) It has an attachment or URL for you to click on.

With those four rules, I manage my mails, private messages and been doing fine so far. If a message matches any three of those four, it's most likely spam.

EDIT: Oh, and I would notify the forum moderators about that message/user.

    Thanks mrwho.

    a) You didn't know the sender = "Serendipity" = No

    b) The message came out of nowhere without any context to you (no reply to any message you sent or continuing some previous conversation) = without any context, I just replied with a greeting, and I received no response.

    c) The message is pointless (just some random quote) = "Hey,I'm new here, how's it going?"The most fundamental harm we can do to ourselves is to remain ignorant by not having the courage and the respect to look at ourselves honestly and gently" - Pema Chodron---" = seems the appointment of an author

    d) It has an attachment or URL for you to click on.= "http://serendipity20.notlong.com" =......?
