I've been in this industry over 25 years and still can't figure out why sales reps can't sell shit until the last two days of the month!!! What's wrong with the other 18-20 other business days of the month?

I totally agree; everything is calm all month long, then all hell breaks loose the last few days of the month.

Yep.. it is the same here. Got to get it out, now so they can reach their quotas. The end of the quarter and the fiscal year are worse!
I would agree with that and alot of it is the salesman's fault but the customer shares alot of blame too. Many companies take forever to close a deal and alot are on monthly and quarterly budgets and don't spend it til the end of the cycle. So give the poor bastards a break- me included- and just trash us for the really stupid stuff we can do like promise the customer it will make coffee along with copies. Fire extinguisher at the ready.
+1!
Personal fave is when the accessories aren't in and they still want it delivered. Because the customer really wants to see their machine in pieces on the office floor during the first month.
Happens all the time here as Kyocera has been notorious lately for back ordering accessories.

I just cornered a well seasoned rep about this horsecrap last week, when we got hit by a 6 machine install of his without warning, all on October 29. Two of the machines were Segment 6 (135 pages per minute), so this was no "basic" install.
He couldn't really give me a straight answer, other than "you don't understand the stress we're under", and "the customer wanted it now." Yeah, right.
To further perpetuate the issue, the contracts normally are written to start at the beginning of the month, so that we can "flip the switch" on the first of the month.
I tried to explain to him that we can't possibly be at our best when we get bombed at the last minute, with or without warning, but I don't think it will make much difference.

Its all so the stupid rep can get their super high paychecks at the end of the month and show that they are maintaining a minimum quota...they care little about anything else...typical of this species.
