I've got a 2006 HHR with 175k on it. It's been a good service vehicle with no major problems, although the company has just bought a new VW Jetta TDI that I will be using soon.

Honda fits can be on the small side....but you CAN play tetris with the seats. i like that option ALOT!

Subaru Forrester? Nice rideheight, nice engine sound, awd makes it weather proof. when seats are folded you could put tons of stuff in there.

no ford/mazda... I have one, seat comfort is hooooorible.

honestly I don't think your employer should be able to force you to make such a purchase. I have heard of this Runzheimer system, what is it all about?
is it another way for the employer to screw over a Technician?
what happened to the days of the tech providing their own vehicles and the companies paying a car allowance and mileage?

I too would recommend a subaru forester if you get a lot of snow.

Otherwise, the Toyota Rav 4's are pretty nice and hold up their value.

This VW GTI V6 netted me 266,261 miles to date. All tech miles. Back seat folds down. Quick, fun auto.

Consumer reports doesn't employ copy techs to test their vehicles..not much real world experience there..

I bought a 1990 Mit Mirage new and drove it through 2004...Literally till the doors fell off..Driver door fell off getting into it at home one morning..Mitsubishi dealer tacked it back on for free and I drove another 10k before I sold it at 250K..Replaced it with a 2003 Lancer and I'm at 232K right now..Still get 35-36 MPG on the highway. Both cars have run flawlessly...Lancer is still on the original timing belt, but did get a new starter last year...Until US can match that reliablity, I will stay with Mitsubishi....PS My wife drives a Saturn L100 w/ 104K..lest you think I am anti american products...Emujo

We're driving volkswagen tourans - it's ok reliable-wise but it don't like how the car looks like (= like a family bumper). Before I had a mazda 6 - not really fancy but I had more fun with it, even if I'm not really a fan of japanese car brands.

Current Car: 2007 Ford Focus Wagon, avg 29.4 mpg and currently has 328k miles on it.

I'm also looking at a Honda Fit, a friend of mine bought one, and he says no matter how he drives it, it always gets 41 mpg (stick) and the way the seats fold down, it can hold a lot of st00f. I also liked all the little cubbies to put stuff in and the cup holders infront of the bottom of the A/C vents to keep your drinks cold.
