Yikes, I need to run the old fuel out of the snowblower this weekend. Thanks for the reminder!

I used to work in a retail chain called Big W in Australia, and the planning for Christmas would start in September. I used to work on the receiving dock. The first boxes of decorations would mark the avalanche of toys to come in the coming weeks.

On the dock, space was at a premium. If you needed to get at a pallet amongst a heap of other it becomes a game. You know the puzzle that required you to move pieces 1 by 1 utilizing the one free spot you had to complete the picture? That's what it was like.

And directly after Christmas, the Back to School sale was on. Then Easter almost immediately after.

Secondary update. Still snowing; cold enough to keep the snow on the ground today and a light dusting on the car. Halloween is going to suck eggs this year. I'll have to check out the local Wally World and see what kind of decor they're presently offering up. They like to stock well in advance because of all the reservations nearby, people will come in when they can and buy what they want/need.

Thought I'd give Christmas a wide birth one year and headed to Beijing at the end of December but was depressing to find the hotel was decked out in christmas decorations. It seems that those evil godless communist Chinese do understand the true meaning of Christmas, its unbridaled commercialisam and any excuse to make a dollar!
However they didn't get it totally right, a mate of mine claims he came across a Santa Claus nailed to a cross in one department store.

It could be worse. I live just out side of North Pole, AK. The decorations never come down and there is a 30 foot santa clause next to the santa clause house. Oh they even have a real live reindeer for the tourist. We had our first snow 2 weeks ago and morning temps have been in the low 20s.

    Re: 1st of September.......

LOL I haven't seen snow since last February. We had half a morning of snowfall (approx 3 to 4 inches). It all melted by 10:30am, but school was already canceled. Was a slow work day that day. Walked out this morning to a balmy 70 degrees(real feel: 75ish), was about 85 today, its going to be about 90 tomorrow. People are still cutting grass, haven't even thought about Christmas yet. Is that even coming up this year? Who knows when that's going to be?

    Gotta love the south baby!
