    Re: Lazy ass techs....

We have a number of these wonder techs. (wonder how they got hired) I got so sick of seeing these broadcast emails coming across my cell phone for stupid things like "My machine is jamming every 10 copies, what can be the problem?" that I finally wrote a broadcast email myself outlining what you need to include in a request for help email. Info like "what machine are you working on?" , "What exactly is the problem (jam code, error code, photo sample of the CQ problem)" , "What do you suspect to be the problem?", "What have you done so far to resolve the problem?" , "Have you followed the troubleshooting steps in the manual for this problem fully?". I also stated that they should have manuals for every machine they are working on. I then asked that everyone ignore any request for help via email that does not have all this info.

I received a number of emails from our good techs thanking me for putting that out there. The number of dumb ass emails has dropped off quite a bit. Now when one of those emails pops up, I reply in a broadcast email in a random "magic 8 ball" answer.

    "Answer hazy, try again later..."

    Re: Lazy ass techs....

I started charging a beer an answer.
When they got up to a certain point, I would put them on credit hold.

Pay up with a case of good beer, or find your own answers.
The stupid calls stopped, or I could at least have a few free beers after work.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

    Re: Lazy ass techs....

I have had one of those days where a lazy tech has asked me questions that he should know by now are best answered by a manager.
For example a new machine with an error code, sometimes we would doa the machine, but its not my decision. FFS
I get fed up with him asking the same old stuff over and over again.

I have left out specific details to protect the guilty.

Do what nmfaxman does as noted earlier - if a beer is not your 'cup of tea', make it something you can enjoy for putting up with these jerks.

Someone should complement this thread with another thread called " Lazy ass bosses.." Man-o-man, I could have a field-day with that topic...
