Ricoh MP 2550 Scans come out B&W when scan in color is chosen

I have a customer that is trying to scan in color and the scans are arriving at the destination folder/email account in B&W. Anyone ever seen this? It's a Ricoh MP 2550 / Lanier LD425. I have confirmed they are selecting color in the scan settings.

    Thanks!

What type of file are they selecting for the scan output? PDF and JPEG are the only formats from the display that will allow for colour output. TIFF is always going to be black and white.

If it is a PDF or JPEG, then do you get the same result using the auto colour option on the scanner?

Any chance someone loaded MP 2550B firmware onto the MP2550? Or put a MP2550 controller in a MP2550B machine?

Firmware is the same for both. Machine might actually be a "B" model and will never support color scanning.

He figured it out while I was typing.

There is different firmware for the B models

    SCANNER FIRMWARE (D017/D019 ONLY) ver. 01.13: 01.13 D0195333F

    SCANNER FIRMWARE (D018/D020 ONLY) ver. 01.13: 01.13 D0205343F

Since it's a B model, be sure to change the plug and play setting in the SP's to keep the confusion at bay for your own, and any other tech's, sanity...

Reminds me of when I had an LD232c blow its controller board. Ordered a replacement overnight, put it in the machine and get a watchdog error. Try it in a different machine: works like a champ. Try that board in the down machine: watchdog error. Turns out the setup guys put the wrong front label on the copier: it was actually an LD 228c, which had a unique controller! To help any other poor sap who had to see that box, I removed the front label and changed the plug and play to the right model...

In this instance, it will keep a tech from loading the wrong system, scanner, and fax (if it's there) firmware on the machine and really killing it.
