    MPC4500 won’t print unless turned off/on

Hi all, I have an mpc4500 that when I arrived just the data light was flashing & no jobs in the queue, I powered the machine off & on then one job printed out, then the machine just sat with the data light flashing & noting in the queue, again I powered the machine off & on then it printed another job & again sat with the data light flashing, this continued all the time.

I’m not sure what to do about it, the firmware is up todate, what could be causing this anyone know!?

    Many thanks.

    Hello.

Do you have DHCP enable? or disable?
If you have DHCP disable, You may have some IP conflicts.
Turn off the device and ping that IP address to see if you have any conflicts.

it could be the data that's been sent causing it to lock up, have you tried taking it off the network and connecting a laptop direct to see if you get the same issue ?

As one of the other guys said. First thing is to isolate the clients network and connect your laptop directly to the copier. Test and see if the copier prints without failing and checking that the data light goes away after you print.
If you can print successfully with your laptop, then I would ask if customer has a print server. Check and clear any jobs in queue. If all computers are printing direct then you have the bigger task of checking and clearing all local print queus.
plug copier back into network and see if job/data light appears again.
If it does then there are a few things you can do
-user tools-Printer features-system- auto continue to 1minute and error logs to on. Then power cycle copier to see what happens when data comes in.
sometines the system logs in the WIM can give you more information.

    Good luck

That's what my money's on! It should also say 'printing' if you touch the printer button, and display the name of the document(s). It's likely a webpage with some corrupt data (probably from IE).
Since it can be time consuming and difficult to find the source of the document, I wish I could remember the member'' name that suggested a while back a quick/ easy solution for this, so I could give props. I've used it a few times since:
Power off/ power on (with network cable disconnected). Enable user authentication. Plug in network cable. When the job(s) arrive again, they'll be flushed immediately. Disable user authentication. Solved.

Go into the PC/server spool folder and delete all the print spooler files.

Clear all the MFD fax doc files in the service mode fax settings.

Nice workaround when we have a job that is blocking the device!
(Instead of checking all computers to delete the printer spool)

That's a damn good idea, Sandy. I'm going to remember that one.

    Thanks Mika.
I wish I could take credit, but most of my good ideas are just stuff I've absorbed from paying attention around here
But this one has come in pretty handy

Great tip Sandy! I would think the underlying issue is Internet Explorer. Clearing the print queue is the first step. I always recommend Mozilla or Chrome for a browser to stop the printer lock ups in the first place.
