The black is unique to the 4501 because of the hoofing great big lube bar. Not sure on the colours but they are cheap enough anyway.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

    As it's hardly a secret.

B2242042 drum units can unofficially be used for C/M/Y.

Just grind down the corner of the connector with the pin so it fits (an Dremel makes a quick and tidy job of it).

NO offence, but that hasn't been true since the MPC4500 series (Back in 2008). It's true the black PCU for the 4501 has a larger lube bar and can not be used for the color. I found this out the hard way by completely disassembling it to try to rebuild a yellow one in the field.

    Incorrect.

    B2242042 are good to use for C / M / Y up to the 02 range.

The 01 and 02 have unique k drum units, and 02 have back plates that need cutting off, but apart from that your good to go.

Either that or I have just been lucky a few hundred times.

Never knew the trick about swapping the wires for the d027 series and newer. Would have saved a lot of parts calls back in the day. Thanks for the PDF

Use the PCDU maintenance kits from the SPC830 into these, they work perfect with only slight modification for them to work

    Good luck with it^^

I've already noticed that ricoh did more changes between BK/COL units like slight different position of gears/shafts.
It might be possible to strip parts out of a BK unit and rework a COL unit but I haven't tried.

Whatsoever it's going to be much more effort than filing a corner off or swap some wires^^
